WTVO/WQRF - The Winnebago County Republican Party loses one of their own.
Precinct Committeeman Joe Terrell has resigned from his position effective immediately. He also sent a letter to Winnebago County Clerk Margie Mullins indicating he'll withdraw from the November election.
In his letter, Terrell says "Due to failure of leadership in Springfield, economic conditions in Illinois have compelled me to seek employment elsewhere."
Terrell has been involved in Rockford area politics since 1994. He ran for Machesney Park Village President in 2009, but lost to incumbent Tom Strickland. A year later, he tried his hand for the position of Winnebago County Clerk. But, he lost to Mullins there as well.
Terrell is moving to Michigan where he'll start a new job on Monday.
His resignation comes just a week after longtime State Rep. Chuck Jefferson (D) retired.
