Arrests Made in Attempted Armed Robbery of 83-year-old Woman

Two accused robbers in custody, a third remains at large

ROCKFORD - Two young men have been arrested after allegedly attempting to rob an 83-year-old woman using a handgun.

The crime happened Sunday at around 1:30pm in the 2000 block of Dresden Ave.  Police say three men approached an 83-year-old woman, pulled a handgun (which they later determined was a realistic looking BB gun), threatened her, and then grabbed for her purse.  She began screaming, and the three men fled on foot without her purse.

Police located three men walking on Halstead Road, two of which were taken into custody, while the third made a run for it and eluded the officers.

The two taken into custody are 18-year-old Joshua Mittlesaedt and 18-year-old Darius Barker, both of Rockford.  Both men have been charged with Attempted Aggravated Robbery and Attempted Robbery of a Victim over the age of 60.

The third suspected robbery remains at large.  Anyone with information is asked to contact the Rockford Police Investigations Bureau (779-500-6551) or Crime Stoppers (815-963-7867).
