Beloit Police Officers Honored at Award Ceremony

Awards presented to Beloit Officers who make a difference in their community

Families of Beloit Police Officers gathered at the Rotary River Center this morning to see their loved ones recognized.

An award ceremony was held not just for the brave men and women in blue, but also for civilians who have made a great contribution to the department.  The awards included were the life-saving award and the citizen award.  One given to a brave pedestrian who stepped in to assist Beloit officers, while the other, the life-saving award, given to officers who pulled a person out of harms way while risking their own life.  The department says the event is important to further their efforts to build relations between police and the community.

Sergeant Ryan Flanagan said, "The importance, number one, is to reinforce the officers that they're doing great work and to make sure that they keep doing it.  And part of it is to let the community know that there are amazing people, men and women, that are serving their community, that are out there every day that are doing amazing stuff like this."

A memorial service was also held following the ceremony, celebrating the lives of those who were killed in the line of duty.
