BELVIDERE - A prominent stateline employer getting rewarded for being green this Earth Day.

The Belvidere Chrysler plant received a $1.3 million rebate check from Nicor Gas.

Chrysler started three natural gas saving projects to make the plant more energy efficient. The result: the plant saved the equivalent energy of 1,000 homes in one year.

Nicor says the money saved will be put back in the community.

"The dollars that the Chrysler plant will save over time will enable them to reinvest in the community, create new jobs, but really be a partner in that community," says Beth Reese, Nicor President.

Nicor has rebates for homeowners as well, including replacement furnaces and thermostats.
