The accident happened near the intersection of Allen Street and 10th Avenue last night.
Eyewitness News caught up with the homeowner who shows us the damage.
"Well, my husband and I, I thought it was thunder," said Katherine Kramarczyk, homeowner.
But what Katherine Kramarczyk was hearing was a car crashing into her Belvidere home around 9:30 Saturday night. Photos, courtesy of Rockford Scanner, show scene.
"Took a look at the bottom of my stairs and saw fencing and the front of the vehicle that had just struck my garage," said Kramarczyk.
Now, crumbled brickwork and wood boards are all that's left of what was nearly a fatal accident. That's because police say before the 58-year-old driver landed in Kramarczyk's garage, he crashed through this chain link fence. It impaled him. He's clinging to life in critical condition at OSF St. Anthony.
Kramarczyk says the damage to her home is repairable, she just wants the driver to be okay.
She immediately called 9-1-1 after the accident.
Police are still investigating what caused the man to loose control of his car.
