"Shocking, upsetting," said Roxanna Griffiths, a parent of two District 100 children who will eventually attend North. "Makes you worry for your children."
30-year old History teacher Jenee Blackert has been charged with 4 counts of criminal sexual assault after her alleged involvement with a 17-year-old student. Criminal Sexual Assault is a Class 1 felony punishable by four to 15 years in prison. Authorities say they received a report about Blackert having inappropriate contact with the student.
District 100 Superintendant Mike Houselog says Blackert is suspended without pay pending the outcome of the case. Houselog says they were alerted to the investigation nearly a week ago by Boone County authorities.
This is the 2nd incident for District 100 in less than a year. Former Belvidere girls varsity basketball coach Darcy Baney was accused of sexually abusing a 17-year old girl on the team. Parents say it's clear some teachers aren't getting the message.
"Teachers are adults and need to act appropriately," said Jamie Buetsch, a parent with children in the school district. "You have to be careful with what you do and what you don't do with a student."
Both incidents involved female teachers in the district, something that's becoming more commonly reported.
"You just don't expect it," said Griffiths. "I guess that it can happen, men or women, but you're just more used to hearing that's it's men."
"Last couple years, you hear about churches as well," said Buetsch. "It's your kids and you're hoping their safe at school."
Blackert has been removed as the school's freshman volleyball coach less than a week before the start of practice. She was released on $50,000 bond. Boone County Sheriffs ignored Eyewitness News request for an interview.
