BELVIDERE - The first day of school looked more like a day of mourning in Belvidere.
Dozens of District 100 teachers dressed in black to protest the fact that they're working without a contract. On Monday night, they packed a school board meeting to show they want action taken.
Belvidere Education Association President, Mark Luthin, says the sooner they get a contract, the sooner they can get back to focusing on what really matters.
"Our focus as teachers, of course, is doing the best that we can with our students," Luthin said. "That's what we do very well, and we hope to put this behind us soon."
The Union will meet with the Belvidere School District's bargaining team again on September third.
