ROCKFORD- The future looks bright for bicycle riders.
The state released its Bike Transportation Plan - the first statewide bicycle plan in its history.
"[It] will help develop a safer and more efficient transportation system for everyone who rides a bike" says Gov. Pat Quinn (D). "We pride ourselves on our 21st century transportation system, and this plan will guide our future work to expand access to this safe, cost-effective and green form of transportation."
The plan addresses facility design and maintenance, network gaps, safety education and enforcement among others.
The plan would let the Stateline make new bike paths in downtown Rockford that would provide access to the Davis Park path and the Morgan Street Bridge path.
It also will give workers at the soon to be opened Woodward a chance to walk to work. The Willow Creek bike path will open over there.
