UPDATE: Rockford Firefighters Battle A Blaze At QMI on 4th Street

Heavy flames were seen shooting from the buildings roof

ROCKFORD - UPDATE: Firefighters arrived to the QMI building on 4th and Market Street at around 10:45p.m. First arriving firefighters saw flames shooting from the roof of the building. The fire was upgraded to a fourth alarm after nearby transformers caught fire and electrical wires dropped in the area.

Chief Derek Bergsten says inside the QMI building were mats and towels. The company rents out linens for commercial and business use. Due to the heavy flames from the roof and potential collapse, firefighters were called out of the building. They then attacked the flames defensively. The fire was under control in roughly an hour and a half.

"The men and women today did an incredible job keeping it from extending to the building to the south and to the other part of the business that the owner had," said Rockford Fire Chief Derek Bergsten.

No one was hurt during the fire, crews have remained on scene to investigate and extinguish hot spots. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
