BELVIDERE- Curtis Peck, 28 and a former Assistant Manager at the Belvidere Culver's is arrested for stealing more than 80 credit and debit card numbers.
"My employees are heartbroken, I’m heartbroken because I personally put a lot of trust in this young man," said Culver’s Owner Todd Kjell.
Police found computer equipment, an electronic credit card writer and blank credit cards at a home in the 1800 block of Crestwood Avenue in Rockford.
"We don't often work cases work cases where an individual is actually making his own credit cards with the information that was stolen from another person," said Belvidere Deputy Police Chief David Ernest.
The crimes happened over the last sixty days in the drive-thru. Kjell reports the thefts were an isolated incident unlike other recent data breaches.
"There was no breach of our security systems here. Culver’s is very confident in our security measures for our credit cards," explained Kjell.
He’s also extremely sorry the crime happened here. Kjell prides his Culver's restaurant on being a community business.
"Any of my employees will tell you that I treat them as family and so for one of my family members to do something like this it's very disheartening," said Kjell.
Peck has since been arrested and charged with two counts of identity theft. Additional charges are pending by the Boone County States Attorney.
