MACHESNEY PARK - A popular regional convenience store chain is moving into Machesney Park this year.
Village officials announced on Tuesday that permits have been issued for a new Casey's General Store to be built at the northeast corner of Route 173 and Forest Hills Road.
The new convenience store and gas station will be located in what is now a vacant lot in front of the Meijer grocery store. Approximately 20 employees will be hired for the location.
"This is another great win for Machesney Park," said Village President Steve Johnson. "Route 173 is bustling with traffic and new business - we can't wait for Casey's to open."
Casey's, which is known for it's cafeteria like atmosphere and ready-to-go items such as pizza, hambugers and hot dogs, has made a push recently to expand its presence in northern Illinos and the Chicago suburbs. Casey's operates more than 2,000 stores in 15 states.
