Cause of Leaf River Fatal Fire Marked Undetermined

Fire Marshal says despite being undetermined, lamp could be potential cause

LEAF RIVER - The Illinois State Fire Marshal says a fire in November that killed a Leaf River volunteer firefighter cannot be determined.

According to reports from the Sauk Valley newspaper, the state fire marshal says even though the fire is undetermined, they believe it started on the first floor in the home's living room. A lamp was plugged in inside the room and investigators say the household item could be the cause.

The fire killed 19 year old Gregory Wood who was inside. Wood's dad, a firefighter for Leaf River was injured, along with his Mom and brother. A fundraiser is being held Saturday night for the Wood family from 4p.m. to 12a.m. at Rumor's Bar on Main Street in Leaf River.
