Cause Still Under Investigation in Rockford Metal Shop Fire

ROCKFORD - Investigators are still trying to figure out what started a massive building fire near downtown Rockford.

The fire broke out just after 8pm Tuesday at a metal shop on Hill Street.  It took nearly three dozen firefighters more than four hours to put it out.  Several businesses operate out of that building.

"I've never been in a fire or known... the devastation," said Tim Hawley, owner of Timothy J. Hawley Inc.  "It could take a long time to get back to where I was before."

Hawley said he expects his business to be up and running in about three months.  He hopes to stay where he is.  But, if he can't, he'll move somewhere else.
