Happy faces all around at Social, a downtown Rockford restaurant that specializes in one of a kind cocktails and farm fresh food.
"It's all really about just about trying to produce the greatest possible tasting thing that we can," said Paul Sletten, Chef/Owner of Social and Abreo.
It's something that is earning Sletten a seat in the limelight. The lights and cameras belong to popular Chicago PBS show, "Check, Please!".
"Every week we have three guests recommend their favorite restaurants in Chicago," said Jacqui Wedewer, producer of 'Check, Please!' "but this time we're taking a tour all around Illinois and doing five towns and the guest's favorite restaurant in that town."
"With as much as I put in, and my staff puts in, for more people to know what we do I think is exciting," said Sletten.
Not only will the show spotlight Social, but the Forest City as a whole. Camera crews toured the area, stopping at spots like the riverfront and the Coronado. For Sletten, there's no better place to do business than downtown.
"We don't have an empty building on this block, you know, everything is full, everything is successful, and everybody's been here for a long time," said Sletten.
But not everyone is as blown away with the area as he is. A recent hockey survey gave the BMO Harris Bank Center high marks for it's facility, but said the area is devoid of any life. It's something Sletten actually agrees with, but he adds that it's not the only part of town like that.
"There's strips of Perryville where it's just cornfields that would be considered devoid of life, you know what I mean?" said Sletten.
Sletten hopes the spotlight on his business will benefit not just Social, but Rockford as a whole.
"Hopefully it's a win, win for Rockford and Social," Sletten said.
Sletten also owns "Abreo," which is a restaurant just a few doors down from Social. The show is slated to air on WTTW on June 20.
