BYRON – A report says Exelon is considering shutting down the Exelon Nuclear Plant in Byron along with two other plants in Illinois.

An allegation the company denies. This nuclear plant generated an estimated $32 million on property taxes last year.

Regulators suspect Exelon may ask the Illinois Legislature for help to keep nuclear power alive and profitable in Illinois.

If closed, more than 800 people could lose their jobs. Also, businesses in the area could be impacted.
