DEKALB - A 20-year-old Hazel Crest man was arrested Thursday for armed robbery and attempting to sell the stolen goods online.
DeKalb police investigated an armed robbery which took place on the 900 block of Hillcrest Drive at 7:40pm, where a victim was robbed at gunpoint for his cell phone.
Earlier in the evening, the victim had offered to sell his cell phone on OfferUp, a resale application. The suspect contacted the victim, arranged a meeting, and then robbed the victim when he arrived.
Police used a K-9 unit to track the suspect from Hillcrest Drive to an apartment building in Edgebrook Drive and were able to conduct a search and locate the stolen cell phone. The suspect, later identified at Juvan Webster, was found hiding in the bathtub.
The handgun used in robbery had been stolen from McHenry County, and was recovered from the apartment.
The DeKalb Police believe that Webster's arrest may have stopped further robberies. In the investigation, they discovered he was attempting to buy and sell items on OfferUp.
Webster is charged with Armed Robbery, Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Firearm without a FOID, and Possession of Firearm Ammunition without a FOID.
