Driver Killed in Cherry Valley Crash Identified as Belvidere Man

Thomas Vernon, 40, died from injuries sustained in the crash.

CHERRY VALLEY - The man killed in a single-car crash in Cherry Valley early Thursday morning has been identified.

He is Thomas Vernon, 40, of Belvidere.

Police say he was driving on Newburg Road in Boone County around 3 a.m. Thursday when he left the roadway for unknown reasons and hit several trees near Shaw Road. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The coroner confirmed he died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. It remains under investigation.
