ROCKFORD- Dr. Norman Walzer speaks to a crowd of those wanting to transform Rockford.
"You need to engage the people. You need to develop some champions in a community that want to move ahead. You need to identify where the people see the major issues are," explained Dr. Walzer.
He specializes in regional economic development. Walzer says the expansion of the aerospace and health industries make Rockford positioned to do great things.
"What Rockford has going for it though is it's been working for six or eight years on economic development transformation," he said.
And part of that transformation is the recent community visioning sessions. They’re already giving way to what people think are the major issues around town.
All of the input has been put into spreadsheets then posted online.
"Starting on Tuesday we'll start pulling all that paper all those spreadsheets together and drafting a shared vision," said Transform Rockford Executive Director Mike Schablaske.
Transform Rockford will work out of the Coronado Corner pulling all of the spreadsheets together and drafting a plan.
The last community visioning session will be held Monday at Rock Valley College at 6 PM.
