Carolina Cruz, an award-winning journalist, joined WTVO/WQRF in October 2013 as a Multimedia Journalist. 

Before moving to Rockford, she worked for La Raza Newspaper in Chicago, which is one of the top Spanish newspapers in the Windy City. 

In October, she won a silver award from the National Association of Hispanic Publications (NAHP) for her stories about the Chicago teachers’ union strike, and a bronze award for her coverage about UNO Charter schools.

In her free time, she is the president of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists Chicago Professional Chapter, where she advocates for young journalists and support veteran journalists to get back into media industry. 

In fall 2011, she was a production intern for Telemundo Chicago. In spring 2012, she worked as a television reporter for the weekly news show Metro Minutes at Columbia College Chicago, while she hosted one of the Spanish segments at the Windy City Webcasts.

She has been a fellow at the Dow Jones Multimedia Seminar, the UNITY Journalists Students Projects, the National Press Foundation Cancer Issues program, and the Specialized Reporting Institute about immigration reform with the McCormick Foundation. 

Cruz has an Associate’s Degree on Mass Communications from Prairie State College, and a Bachelor's Degree on Broadcast Journalism from Columbia College Chicago.
