Four Local Mayors Volunteer at Northern Illinois Food Bank

The mayors hope their actions inspire others to volunteer.

ROCKFORD - Four Stateline mayors took a break from running their respective cities to help those less fortunate.

Mayors from Rockford, Loves Park, Machesney Park, and South Beloit, as well as their staff, all helped unload food donations at the Northern Illinois Food Bank on Tuesday.  Loves Park Mayor Darryl Lindberg told Eyewitness News he's grateful to help out and he hopes their example will inspire others to take action.

"The point of the day is to bring to the forefront how important volunteers are," said Lindberg.  "A lot of times, they come out and they never get the recognition they deserve and we certainly owe a lot to them."

The food bank could certainly use the help.  Their goal is to prepare 75 million meals for stateline families this year.  If you're interested in helping out, you have to register.
