ROCKFORD - It's the most famous dance in high school, the prom, but the night to remember sometimes comes with a hefty price tag. A nation wide organization with a location in Rockford is helping girls get dresses without making a dent in the wallet.
The Becca's Closet Rockford location at the Lutheran Church of The Good Shepherd (1829 N. Rockton Ave) opened Saturday. More than 1,000 dresses are given away free of cost every year. The location brings in people from the Chicago area to even Iowa to find dresses.
Volunteers say it's important every girl gets an opportunity to find a dress for their style. "We don't have any sort of application process, there's no need base," said Becca's Closet volunteer Tracie Dohm. "You just come in, you find a dress and you look amazing in it, every girl who comes in is like,'I never thought I would be able to find a dress like this'," she added.
The Becca's Closet on Rockton will be open every Saturday until April 28th. They will then re-open in September for homecoming season.
