FREEPORT - UPDATE (2:30 p.m.) - Freeport Police say ten students were arrested for various misdemeanor offenses for Friday's fights.
Police say an initial fight broke out between two female students, which may have led to a second larger fight on the second floor of the high school. The second fight was what required emergency assistance due to the large number of students involved.
As police and Freeport High School staff attempted to restore order, several other fights broke out.
No serious injuries were sustained in the fights.
Illinois State Police and Stephenson County Sheriff's deputies assisted Freeport Police in responding to the incident.
UPDATE (1 p.m.) - Students are being allowed to go home early after a series of fights put Freeport High School on a hard lockdown.
Students tell 'Eyewitness News' that as many as ten separate fights broke out late Friday morning, leading to police being called to the school. No word yet on whether there were any arrests.
Police have since left and students are being given the option of going home for the day.

Freeport High School is currently on lockdown after several fights inside prompted school officials to call police for assistance.

Please be advised that Freeport High School is currently on hard lockdown due to multiple fights due to community issues. Police are present and the situation is under control. We will provide more information as soon as possible. Thank you for your attention.
