FREEPORT - Organizers seem to be using the power of the fortune cookie to spread positive messages.
Check It, a group of Freeport High School students, are passing out the fortune cookies during lunch periods Monday and Tuesday. With prom season coming up, the messages all center around drunk driving.
Some of the messages include: "Red solo cup won't fill your future up" and "Your future awaits, make sure you get there sober."
Four students will also wear fortune cookie costumes, also displaying a drunk driving message.
According to The Century Council, most fatal accidents involving teens are caused by drunk driving during prom season.
The First Warn Weatherisk will remain Moderate for Friday night.
