FREEPORT, IL--Music played at the Freeport Art in the Park festival on Sunday as residents enjoyed artwork of every kind, from paintings and photography to ceramics and jewelry.

"It’s a fun way to enjoy some artwork that you might never have seen before,” said Jessica Modica, the executive director of the Freeport Art Museum.

It's the 7th year that the Freeport Art Museum has teamed up with the Park District to put on the event.

Modica says this occasion is a great way for the community to connect and support local artists. "Freeport’s a smaller community and it's a way for everybody to come out and mingle and see each other and have fun,” she says.

The fest also features live music and demonstrations by local artists--like the Drum Circle, and features an art space designated to children, where they can finger paint and learn how to weave colorful patterns. They can even get their face painted.

Art in the Park is popular in the Freeport community and continues to grow each year.

Modica said, "People are so enthusiastic about this event every year and it's something that people look forward to."

Ron Schneider is the superintendent of recreation for the Freeport Park District, and he said, "It seems to grow every year just based off of word of mouth, so definitely something everyone looks forward to year after year."
