ROCKFORD -- Karen Williams was on her way home from a soccer game on Wednesday night when she got caught up in the middle of a police chase near Cherryvale Mall.  Three suspected armed robbers in a white Pontiac trying to flee police smashed into her car, leaving her with life threatening injuries, and her friend's and family in shock.

"I'm heart broken and angry," says friend Dana Krischke. "Very angry that people are allowed to do something like this.  And the fact that they hit her and just jumped out of the car and continued to try and hurt police officers.  It's very unfair."

Karen is well known to the J'Hawk community.  As a student at Jefferson, Karen played on the varsity basketball, volleyball and soccer teams.  She is an active member of the school's booster club, and has kept up her love of sports by participating in a number of local sports teams and clubs.

Her friends describe her as everybody's cheerleader.  Jennifer Winberg tells Eyewitness News, "She just was so passionate about encouraging people and building people up and making sure they understood how important they were in the world."

Danna adds that, "It shouldn't happen to anybody but it definitely shouldn't happen to somebody like her."
