Funding Secured For Downtown Amerock Hotel

Paperwork is expected to be finished Monday, groundbreaking early 2018

ROCKFORD - Paperwork is being finalized after funding was secured for Rockford's Amerock hotel and conference center. City leaders and representatives from developer 'Gorman and Company' are expected to sign off on the project Monday.

A four star Embassy Suites Hotel will take the place of the long empty manufacturing building on South Main Street. Aldermen narrowly okayed the project in April. Supporters say it will add to the city's revenue, while critics argue it takes money away from other potential redevelopment projects.

Gorman has agreed to pay 60 million dollars for the hotel, while the city will invest 12 million for an attached conference center. A groundbreaking is scheduled for early 2018, construction is expected to start before then.
