Governor Pat Quinn announces a $1.5 million trail grant to better a stateline path.

The grant will go to extending the Pecatonica Trail Path to link up with an existing trail that extends from Rockford to the Winnebago County line. Officials say this extension will benefit businesses near the path and increase residents recreational opportunities.

"Wisconsin has built a wonderful trail system," says Jim Gitz, Freeport Mayor. "They didn't do it overnight. They've enjoyed the benefits of it and increased tourism. There's no reason Illinois can't enjoy the same benefits of this."

The trail system is a part of a larger one that will eventually link the Mississippi River to the suburbs of Chicago.
