Groups Send Condolences Regarding Death of South Beloit Mayor

SOUTH BELOIT -- Condolences are being offered from across the Stateline following the news that South Beloit Mayor Michael Duffy has died.  Duffy, 68, had been mayor of South Beloit since 2011.  He has also served as the longtime Superintendent of the South Beloit School District and the Durand School District.

The city said in a news release, "Mayor Duffy served the City with great distinction and will be terribly missed. The City wishes to share its condolences with Mayor Duffy’s wife Lori and their children, Erin Jensen, Megan Duffy, Ryan Duffy, Kyle Coolidge and Kelsey Mix."

The organization Beloit 2020 wrote in a news release, "we are deeply saddened by the death of South Beloit’s Mayor Michael Duffy. Mayor Duffy provided great leadership in the renewal of the City of South Beloit, IL. We appreciated his leadership in working with Beloit 2020 to transform the Confluence of the Turtle Creek and Rock River into a community asset for not only South Beloit but the entire region. We are committed to continuing this work as a fitting legacy to his life as a great civic leader.”
