SPRINGFIELD - Dubbing it a way to change the insider culture at the capitol, GOP gubernatorial candidate Bruce Rauner files a petition to cap how long an elected official can stay in office.
Rauner turned in a petition with over 590,000 signatures to the State Board of Elections. The petition calls for term limits, which would allow a member of the General Assembly to serve for a maximum of eight years.
The petition also calls for structural and procedural changes to the legislature, including:
Raising the threshold to override a gubernatorial veto
Changing the numbers of state house and senate districts
"All these reforms... will go a long way towards changing the insider culture of Springfield" Rauner says, "will go a long way towards changing the insider culture of Springfield and send a message that power belongs in the hands of the people, not the career politicians and special interests."
