ROCKFORD (WTVO) -- The latest in a string of high speed crashes is strictly coincidental.

"Bad luck or violence resulting in people driving recklessly," said Lt. Patrick Hoey of the Rockford Police Department.

Dontrell Littleton, 18, is hospitalized tonight after police say he was speeding in a stolen Hyundai, lost control, and crashed head-on into a Chrysler 300 killing 65-year-old community activist Dorothy Galloway. Along with speeding, Littleton is facing charges of driving under the influence of drugs and more serious charges could be looming. The passengers in the stolen vehicle, Tyrone Briggs, 21, is listed in critical condition while Christopher Ross, 20, is cooperating with police after being treated and released.

"They don't care about their own lives, because they were all hurt," Hoey said.

It's a familiar narrative for Stateline authorities.

"You have a stolen car, they're driving recklessly and from all witness accounts are, for no reason," Hoey said.

Loves Park police attempted to stop a stolen Chevy Impala on August 20, but the driver took off and eventually crashed into an SUV injuring former Rockford Mayor Charles Box. The driver and passenger escaped on foot and no arrests have been made.

Two days later, Michelle Parker, 54, was driving to her second job when she was killed by a drunk-driver in a pick up truck. Rockford Police say Dennis Mikosz, 30, was trying to elude police.

The accidents aren't related, but they serve as a reminder that anything can happen on the road.

"Comes down to just terrible behavior by people who have no regard for their own lives or the lives of the other people who are on the streets," said Hoey. "So it's a sad testament that there's that many people out there that could care less."
