WTVO/WQRF - The state continues to chip away at its backlog of overdue bills.
The balance now stands at $3.6 billion after state leaders paid off about $300 million. It comes after last week's announcement that the unemployment rate fell to 6.8% last week, the lowest its been in six years.
Illinois' backlog of bills at one point was $10 billion. If it can continue the pace it's currently on - the backlog could be paid off in just a few years.
