Illinois Sets New Tourism Record

WTVO/WQRF - More tourists are choosing Illinois for their vacation plans.

The state announced Thursday more than 103.5 million tourists from across the U.S. visited Illinois in 2013, setting a record for the third straight year.

"The tourism industry plays a vital role in driving the Illinois economy forward by supporting local communities and providing quality jobs across the state" says  Gov. Pat Quinn (D).

With all the tourists, more than $235 million was generated from the hotel-motel tax collections, which also set a record.

The 103.5 million tourists are only U.S. visitors.  State officials expect the number to increase when international tourist numbers come in next month.
