WTVO/WQRF - Illinois state workers are retiring at a higher-than-normal rate.

State officials estimate just over 1,000 government employees were on track to retire in April, one month before the pension system overhaul takes effect. In comparison, the average retiree pool is usually around 200.

Lawsuits challenging the new pension law, which cuts benefits and raises the retirement age, are pending.
