Litesa Wallace Named State Rep of the 67th District

- ROCKFORD, IL--The Winnebago county democrats have made a decision. Of the five finalists, they've chose Litesa Wallace.

Wallace served as former representative Jefferson’s chief of staff -- and was reportedly Jefferson’s preferred choice all along.

But, the decision didn't come easy for the three man panel, which spent the morning interviewing five candidates for the job.

Many showed up to the UAW hall on Rockford’s east side, to listen carefully as each candidate explained why they should replace the former 67th district representative, Chuck Jefferson.

Five candidates were vying to serve out the remainder of Jefferson’s term.

Each fielded questions from a variety of topics including: gay marriage, abortion, and taxes.

"The quality of every candidate was good, I think any one of the five would make a great representative of the 67th district and of Rockford,” said chairman of the Winnebago County Democratic Party, Charlie Laskonis.

The interviews lasted about two hours. Following that process, the board members met and voted.

Wallace will have to run for her seat in November, but at the moment, she is running unopposed.
