Local Trainers to Show Dogs at Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show

The owner of Meyer's Tails Up Farm say she's been showing dogs for 30 years

BELVIDERE - A local dog training facility is taking five canines to the most prestigious dog show in the country.

Meyer's Tails Up Farm will bring these dogs to New York City for this year's Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. The facility's owner says Westminster is the longest-running sporting event in the U.S. She adds that she and her colleagues have been showing dogs there for about 30 years. Still, she says it'll be a tough competition.

"Westminster is the most prestigious show in the country," said owner Gwen Meyer. "Like I said, the top 5 dogs are invited. So for us, we want them to show well. It'd be icing on the cake if they got any awards there. We've gotten awards before so we'll see how this year fairs out."

Meyer's has five dogs set to compete -- three from Illinois -- one from Minnesota -- and one all the way from Arizona.
