Rockford-Cracked floors, non working light bulbs, a caved in ceiling, the first floor of the Jefferson-Horton American Legion Post needs some remodeling.

Rockford’s Home Depot heard these local vets cry for help and awarded them a grant.

Local vet Sgt. Michael Johnson says “most of the things we do the money goes to you know providing support for other things you know other veterans and the community and things. So we don’t have a lot of money to rebuild our building.”

That’s a nine thousand dollar grant to be exact. That money will help renovate a local landmark that’s been in the Forest City since 1926.

Chad Forrester of Home Depot says “just a feeling of giving back to the community and taking care of our veterans is huge for us.”

But what makes this grant even more special was that it was awarded on Veterans Day.

Organizers say they plan to start working on the post next month.
