Man and Woman Arrested After Gun, Drugs Found in Vehicle

Handgun, extended magazine and cocaine found inside car in Rockford.

ROCKFORD - Two Rockford residents are in custody following a traffic stop early Tuesday morning.

Police pulled the car over just after midnight near the intersection of 11th Street and 15th Avenue for speeding. When officers approached it, they could smell cannabis.

During a search of the car, officers found a handgun with an extended magazine hidden in a plastic bag in the back seat. They also found a small amount of crack cocaine.

The driver, Brooke A. Rogers, 22, and passenger, Rahime S. Briggs, 20, were both arrested. Rogers is charged with driving while license suspended; Briggs faces charges of armed violence, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, violation of FOID Act, and possession of a controlled substance.
