Man Indicted for Robbing Alpine Bank

Alleges Rockford man used BB gun to escape with large amount of cash

ROCKFORD - A Rockford man has been in indicted in federal court for allegedly robbing an Alpine bank located inside a Schnuck's in July, running off with a large amount of cash.

23-year-old Demontrion Phillips used a BB gun to threaten tellers inside the bank on July 17th, escaping with $28,309 according to federal prosecutors.  It marked the second time that same bank had been robbed in a month.

Phillips is currently being held in the Winnebago County Jail on unrelated charges.

Federal prosecutors say armed bank robbery carries a maximum potential penalty of up to 25 years in prison, to be followed by up to 5 years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000 if convicted.
