Machesney Park- Friends, family, and community members gathered on the corner of Harlem Road and Forest Hills Road in Machesney Park.

That’s where Amanda Kordich, 17, was hit by a drunk driver as she was on her way home from work.

The yearly memorial helps to remind others to stand up against drunk drivers.

Amanda’s Mother Diane Kordich says the blue street sign in remembrance of her daughter serves as a reminder to drivers not to drink and get behind the wheel.

"Every time they drive by no matter who they are its just going to make them think wow maybe I should get another driver. Maybe I should have one less drink. Maybe I should, it's the 'maybe I should' that I want people to think of."

The man found guilty of the crash, Wesley Hanson, is currently serving a nine year prison sentence.
