Neighbors React to Deadly Shooting on Rockford's Eastside

- UPDATE -- The suspect has been identified as 32 year old Micheal Medearis. He's charged with two counts of first degree murder. He is currently in the Winnebago County Jail.

UPDATE -- Police confirm the shooting victim has died at a local hospital. The Winnebago County Coroner's Office identifies the man as 27 year old Ramone Bowen. The suspect was taken into custody near the New Towne Plaza.

UPDATE -- Police are now allowing workers back inside the building, and some officers have left the scene.  We are awaiting police confirmation on the condition of the shooting victim and whether there have been any arrests.

ROCKFORD -- Police have cordoned off an area where a man was reportedly shot Thursday afternoon and evacuated an office building fearing the gunman may be inside.

It happened just before 1pm in the 4800 block of Javelin Dr. near East State and Alpine.  Witnesses reported hearing an argument followed by gunfire, and then say they saw the gunman run into the Vision Financial building nearby.

Employees have been told to stay out of the building, and the media has been moved back from the scene.

The extent of the victim's wounds are not known at this time, although they are believed to be serious.
