"We were surprised - a lot of speculation." (see attached video)

A typical quiet north Rockford neighborhood turns into a crime scene early Tuesday morning. Yellow tape and police surround this home at 1116 Deanna Drive.

"I'll admit there was some concern maybe it was a break in or something like that," said Arthur Meyer, a nearby neighbor.

Investigators arrived to find the body of 19- year-old Joshua Williams of Rockford inside. Dead from a gunshot to the head.

"The investigation to this point shows that there were several people that were present in the home at the time of the shooting.  We're interviewing those people. We're also processing the crime scene and reviewing all the facts with the State's Attorney's Office," said Deputy Chief Dominic Iasparro.

The senseless violence caught many residents like Meyer off guard.

"I was kind of stunned that something had happened like this around our neighborhood since it's so quiet and peaceful."

"The incident itself was between people that knew one another.  So, there was not a danger to other neighbors or an incident that was brought into the neighborhood.  It's isolated in that particular home," Iasparro.
