New Farmers' Market Law Goes Into Effect Immediately

WTVO/WQRF - A new measure by the state aims to keep consumers safe at farmers' markets.

Gov. Pat Quinn (D) signed the bill into law over the weekend.  Starting immediately, vendors must inform customers where their specialty crops or raw agricultural products comes from.

"This new law will encourage people across Illinois to get out and buy local" said Quinn. "We need to ensure [safety] for all."

Officials say standard regulations will aid local health departments conduct food inspections.
