UPDATE: One Killed in Three Car Rockford Crash

Four others involved expected to be okay

ROCKFORD - UPDATE (9:30 p.m.) Rockford Police say five people total were involved in a three car crash shortly after 4:30p.m. on North Second Street and Ethel Avenue.

The driver of a Pontiac was heading North and attempting to turn into the Nicholas Conservatory on Ethel when he collided with a white Dodge heading southbound. The force of the collision caused both cars to also hit a mini-van heading south.

The Winnebago County Coroner confirmed the 31 year old male driver of the Pontiac from Loves Park, died from the impact. The driver of the dodge was uninjured. A mother and her two children inside the mini-van were taken to the hospital, but are expected to be okay.

Police have closed off southbound traffic from Auburn St. to Ethel for several hours to investigate. The name of the driver killed has not yet been released.

One person is dead after a three car crash in Rockford.

It happened Tuesday evening at N. 2nd St. and Ethel near the Nicholas Conservatory.  The cause of the crash is under investigation.  Traffic was severely backed up in the north and southbound lanes of N. 2nd St.
