Belvidere School Superintendent Michael Houselog just finished his 5th year in district 100. And he leads from a unique prospective in that he's also a parent.

"My 5 year old is going into kindergarten next year. He's going to be part of one of the most exciting program that I'm looking forward to starting next year at Seth Whitman Elementary... the dual language program. My daughter who's been a kindergartner this year has been part of Washington Academy."

In addition to Washington Academy, the district also started Endeavor High School, an alternative school for students at high risk of dropping out. Houselog calls the new program a success.

"This past week we graduated 14 students in our first year. My hope was that we would have had 7 or 8. "

Houselog says his goal is to continue to invest in the district's teaching and professional staff.

"We have two full time mentors that do nothing but work with out first and second year teachers. It's really allowed them to sharpen their become better at their craft."

It's a team effort ...administrators work with teachers with the support of the board ... all with one goal in mind.

"Create better opportunities for the kids in this district. That's what ultimately what I hope to be able to do over the next many years that I want to continue to work here."

Houselog just finished his 38th year in education.
