One Person in Critical Condition After Serious Crash in Rockford

Police say the elderly driver flipped his SUV

ROCKFORD - An elderly man is in critical condition after a serious rollover crash on Rockford's northeast side.

It happened in the 5500 block of Forest Hills Road, right outside the Mondelez gum factory, at around 4:30 Sunday evening.

Police say a red SUV was following a silver Chevy northbound on Forest Hills, when the driver of the red SUV bumped the back of the Chevy. The SUV then swerved, hit a median, and eventually flipped over, coming to rest in the southbound lanes.

The driver of the SUV, a man believed to be in his 80's, was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition. The driver of the other car was not hurt.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
