ROCKFORD -- Police are warning about a home repair scam on the east side which is apparently targeting elderly residents.

Police say it begins with unsolicited offers to complete repairs of chimneys or roofs. The suspects claim that they have done work for the victims in the past or are affiliated with legitimate contractors who have completed work for the victims. They then demand payment in advance or ask for payment after doing superficial work on the home.

They are described as:

  • Hispanic Male in his late 40’s to early 50’s
  • Hispanic Male in his late 20’s
  • White or Hispanic Female in her mid to late 30’s

They have been seen driving a dark colored older model SUV, a dark colored four door car, and a light colored Minivan.

Police warn of any unsolicited home repair offers, and ask anyone with information to contact the Rockford Police Dept. (987-5824) or Crime Stoppers (963-7867).
