ROCKFORD - Rock Valley College and the YWCA teaming up to take a stand against racism.

It's RVC's 4th annual event. New this year: a panel discussion about African American literature.

Organizers say it's not just about race, but also equality in gender and sexual orientation. They say the only way to put an end up racism is to talk about it, and celebrate everyone's differences.

"Some are using [racism] as a means of exploiting people; they're using it from keeping people from certain privileges, and from reaching their highest potential, rather than celebrating those differences," says event organizer Jessica Oladapo.

Students and faculty showed their support by attending a panel discussion, a march around the school and an open mic forum to discuss racial issues.
