ROCKFORD- Stateline residents lined up Sunday to take refuge from the winter weather, and finally enjoyed some summer fun at the Rockford boat show.

Travis Moon, a vendor at the Rockford boat show says that everyone is discussing their enthusiasm for warmer weather.

“People are really excited about summer coming! You have the fishermen who are definitely ready to hit the lakes and the rivers, and everyone is ready to get outdoors and enjoy and relax with their families.”

Catching fish, checking out the newest boats and jet skis were just a few of the activities to choose from.

With water, boats, and fish all around the event, everyone ready to get back outdoors.

Shannon Bellars, says that her and her family are sick of the snow and hope the weather heats up fast.

“This event makes me think about wanting to go camping, and go fishing with my kids. Just getting away from the snow it’s really been too much this year.”

The thoughts of winter weather were far away from visitor’s minds, leaving travel companies busy.

Travis Moon a local travel consultant said it’s never too early to plan a summer trip.

“They love actually staying in Illinois to take advantage of their get away vacations instead of having to go to the Wisconsin Dells or another state. Everyone absolutely loves it.”

Fisherman Bob Mehsikomer also loved the ambience at the event.  He says that the show gives people a chance to get away and start thinking about getting back out on the lake.

“This is their escape that’s their way to get out of the miserably cold weather that we have had this year, record cold and get warm inside of the building and get warm back in the sport.”
