WTVO/WQRF - Gas prices aren't waiting for the temperature to rise.
GasBuddy.com reports the average price to buy gas in the Rockford area increased eight cents in the past week, settling in at an average of $3.51/g.
The rate surpasses the national average, which is $3.47/g. Still, Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan says even with the uptick, gas prices are still three cents lower than one month ago.
"Oil prices rallied in mid-June, altering the behavior of gasoline prices" says DeHaan. "After the situation in Iraq cooled, it led to a widespread selloff in commodities that led to cheaper oil prices and refineries passed the savings onto motorists."
DeHaan says if you're considering squeezing one final vacation this summer, this summer is as good as any to do it.
