The morning race will cause street closures downtown.

ROCKFORD - The annual Rockford Marathon will be held on Sunday with road closures beginning at 4 a.m.

The race itself begins at 7 a.m. outside Davis Park on Wyman Street near Chesnut. Runners will travel from Rockford, into Loves Park, Machesney Park and portions of Winnebago County.

Marked detour routes will be in place for state roadways and police traffic control on areas like Jefferson Street and Whitman Street will allow traffic to cross periodically.

Travelers are urged to find alternate routes and to be aware of the increase in pedestrian traffic. Organizers ask that motorists reduce speed and watch for runners.
